I‘m glad you’re interested in knowing a little bit more about me! I am currently a Junior at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, on track to graduate with my bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in May 2018. I will also graduate with a concentration in Mechanical Design and a minor in Manufacturing Engineering.
I am interested in gaining more experience in manufacturing, but would also enjoy opportunities related to mechanical design. I have many skills that could be an asset to you company:
- Internship experience in manufacturing. After my freshman year of college, I interned at Silverside Detectors, a start-up dedicated to national security. I worked side-by-side with the company’s manufacturing engineer to develop a coherent, repeatable assembly line process, refine assembly tolerances, and build Silverside’s first completely operational nuclear detectors. Through my involvement in this multi-faceted, complex building procedure, I gained copious amounts of knowledge about manufacturing processes, as well as real-world deadlines, budget constraints, teamwork, and problem solving.
- Experience in marketing and entrepreneurship. My Junior-year Interdisciplinary Qualifying Project revolved around conducting market research for a small South African wine company. During an 8-week trip to Cape Town, South Africa, my team and I gathered insights from market professionals and consumers to understand the factors that influence wine purchases. I learned how to determine target markets and evaluate consumer demand. While entrepreneurship skills are not often associated with engineering, I believe that understanding the market and consumer base of a product helps an engineer create more informed solutions.
- Hands-on skills. I am skilled at working with my hands and am very comfortable using power tools and working in machine shops. I also have experience with MIG welding, CNC milling, CAM software, and SolidWorks. I am extremely creative and artistic, have excellent writing and editing skills, and excel at time management and organization.
